  Ona Alisauskas

Watercolours by Ona Alisauskas often feature views of the shoreline of Georgian Bay. "Water’s subtleties are mesmerizing, and the technical challenge of painting it can be daunting." Alisauskas says.

Alisauskas' work is in many private collections and in public collections such as the Mississauga Library System, the Peel Art Gallery and in the National Collection of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour.

Sheila Ballanger

In the beginning, Sheila painted casually as she worked and raised a family. Her priorities and fascination with art changed as the years passed. In moving to Wasaga in 1996 she found a whole new world.
"There is no better place to live as an artist than here along the shores of Georgian Bay. To express what I see and feel as I work with oil on canvas gives me great pleasure and joy. Being able to share these feelings in my paintings is a bonus.. My goal ? To follow the yellow brick road and enjoy every step of the way..."

Sheila Bannerman

In her early schooldays Sheila’s favourite subjects were art and nature study. Today, as an artist, the wonder and the beauty of nature still draws her attention.

Most of her work is painted in the studio using watercolours or acrylics with her own photos and on site sketches serving as reference. Sheila is interested in the relationship of shapes and colours to each other and of each subject to its setting.

Through her art she seeks to give glory to God who is the source of all creation and creativity.

Sheila paints natural subjects in acrylic or watercolour. Commissioned works include portraits and “Happy Memory Paintings,” which  combine paintings of still life objects, flowers and photographs.

Terry Best Terry is returning to painting after many years of avoidance. Long, long ago she went to U of T and Sheridan College to study Art Education and get a teaching certificate. Later in life she was a woodworker, owning her own business, "Woodwright", creating custom furniture in a Flesherton studio.
Although she is a full time teacher with the Bluewater Board of Education, she has found time to create landscapes, still lifes, and portraits in acrylic.
She says, "I like to paint when it makes me giggle. Then I know I have hit on the right composition or colour or brushstroke."

Betty Bishop

Betty Bishop says she started painting in oil when she retired and considers herself a glorified Sunday painter. She is basically self-taught, although she studied at the Art Students’ League in New York for six months. Betty says her main claim to fame was to be included in the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition in 1995 and to have had a painting hung in the lobby of the Chelsea Hotel in New York in 1993.

Betty moved to Collingwood in 2010 and has been doing life drawing at Go Figure and has recently joined the Marsh Street Painters in Clarksburg. She says that Collingwood is a great place to live if you are interested in painting as there are many wonderful artists here and they are more than willing to share their knowledge.

Julia Brown
Julia was born and raised in Collingwood, then she lived in Toronto for approximately 22 years. Now she has moved back to town. Julia works at Strands on 4th street as a master stylist and colourist.
Julia adores colour and texture. Subject matter is of little interest, yet eyes often seem to appear in her work. She always says, "life is in colour."

Eleanor Brownridge

Eleanor Brownridge has chosen glass as her medium because it is so dynamic -- always changing as reflected and transmitted light play with the colours and textures. The sun moves across the sky and her translucent sculptures and windows are transformed. Room lights bounce on the opaque glass plates, bowls and masks. Visit her new studio in the Pretty River Valley by chance or appointment and watch make stained and fusion glass items.

Charles Davies

Charles Davies developed a passion for furniture making at a young age, and went on to earn a BA in Fine Arts from Guelph University, complete the cabinet making program at Humber College (where later he would return to teach), and gain excellent practical experience at a top custom house in Toronto.

Approximately seven years ago, Charles established his own cabinet shop in Meaford where he makes fine custom freestanding furniture and built-ins, including custom kitchens.

Charles works in all styles and materials, but the common denominator in his work is the quality of the materials he uses and what’s called “designing along the grain”: “Grain pattern has a big impact on the success or failure of a design.  Selecting and sawing wood with care is as important as good joinery: they are both necessary to turn an idea into fine furniture.”

  Trevor Dring

Trevor immigrated  from England to Toronto, Canada at the age of 23. Although he has worked with many media, he works now primarily with waterclour , preferring the softer, soothing effect of watercolour to the bolder lines of oils and acrylic.  As far as subjects go, Trevor usually favours serene scenes : “I love walking in a field just after a snow storm with a camera in my hand and taking in the quiet surroundings.”

Trevor has attended art courses at Sheridan College, and many workshops in most media - the most memorable to him being with Jack Reid, the  renowned Canadian watercolour artist.  He has displayed his art at several successful shows at Springbank Art Centre in Mississauga.

Julie Dubé Born in Quebec City, Julie became drawn to the arts at a young age. She studied visual arts in Quebec and British Columbia, where she graduated from the Victoria College of Art. She has worked with a variety of media but prefers the immediacy of acrylics. Often inspired from natural and urban landscapes, her work is defined by the “after-image”, or “the memory of a specific time and place”, rather than the reality of it. Julie lives and paints in Collingwood, ON.

Joan Folinsbee

Joan Folinsbee has lived and worked in Toronto, Thornhill and the Eastern Townships. She has also travelled widely to Alberta and British Columbia, Nova Scotia and the Florida Keys in her van with her part-lab, Tinker, stopping to paint when a land, water or mountainscape appealed to her.

Her early Ontario College of Art influences- the French Impressionists and the Group of Seven never really left her. Later, after a stint teaching art at Collingwood Collegiate she enrolled at York University and came under the influence of the American Abstract Expressionists. She has broad experience with media and techniques, feeling that only sound structure and vitality can turn a creation into a work of art. Today, she lives and works in Thornbury and its environs, integrating into her work the Niagara Escarpment, the cool blue waters of Georgian Bay, and the people who live there.

Bonnie Goudie

Bonnie Goudie was born in Markdale, Ontario. At an early age she liked to "doodle" and sketch cartoon characters and animals. Although she never pursued a career as an artist, her love of creating fine art was always there.

Bonnie works mainly with acrylic on canvas, but also works on metal and wood. Her commissioned metal pieces are mostly painting on antique cross-cut saws.

Bonnie's work is expressed in high realism where attention to detail is an important aspect of her painting. Her goal is to transfer the viewer to that exact place and time.

Brian Graham

Brian was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario and retired to Collingwood in 2000.  His life-long hobby of wood turning now became a major focus. As a hobbyist, most of Brian’s time was spent developing the technical skills required in the media of wood. Now with the time, he is able to continue growing his technical skills while incorporating the more artistic aspects into his work. Brian still turns the functional pieces: platters, bowls, vases, pens etc., but as of late his new interest is the adding of colour to the wood, enhancing the overall visual effect.

He is a member of Simcoe Woodturners’ Guild and the American Association of Woodturners.

Diane Hammond Photography is Diane Hammond's new-found passion – she has simply fallen in love with it! No matter what else may be going on in her life, she never lets a single day go by without capturing a moment in visual form.
Looking through the lens of her camera helps her to filter out the ‘background noise’ of life and focus on the essence of a scene, be it a shape, colour, texture, pattern or mood. Sometimes the picture she sees in her mind’s eye is best expressed as an abstraction, other times a
realistic portrayal.

Barbara Hotson

A longtime Wedding and Portrait Photographer in Toronto and the Southern Georgian Bay area, I have been painting exclusively in Watercolours for ten years now. For me, there is something magical about the interaction of pigment, water and paper -- what we plan is not what we get! Just as in life, we start with an idea, design an expression of that idea, assemble our imagination, enthusiasm and energy and begin. Then -- let go of the rope! It is in the letting go that the magic happens -- in Watercolour and in Life.

I paint in Toronto and exhibit and sell at Visual Arts Mississaga twice a year, but most of my work is done at Applegate Farm near Walters Falls.

After moving to the Georgian Bay area in 1995 I was inspired by the rolling farm fields, as well as the rougher Canadian Shield. It was then that I chose oil painting as a medium and started to interpret my surroundings. I have expanded my interests from landscapes into a wide range of subject matters, my flower garden being one of my favourite sources. I have a great love for figurative drawing and portrait painting and I have branched out into mixed media when I am fortunate enough to have a live model.

Daphne Pearce

My passion is colour wherever I see it, whether in Arizona, Florida or Ontario. For more than 50 years I’ve shared my love of the changing seasons, animals, birds trees, seas through my paintings and photography. Every day brings something new. Most of my paintings now are from photographs. If you have a treasured scene or pet, I’d be happy to transform it into a painting.

  Cory Stickley

Cory Stickley says she loves the contemplative aspect of photographing with an 8x10 inch view camera (think Ansel Adams) using black and white sheet film. Silver and platinum prints are crafted using  processes that are more than 100 years old in a traditional wet darkroom at the Corner House Studio in Thornbury, ON. Local landscapes, scenes from Canada, France and Greece are some of the subjects that have inspired her to set her 12 lb camera on the tripod and work under the dark cloth.

Diane Cita Timperley

Diane says, "As a late Artistic bloomer, I discovered my passion  for painting from the moment I put brush to paper. The glorious properties of watercolors captured my heart and I now pursue art seriously, taking classes and workshops and spending many hours drawing and painting.  For me, painting is a combination of exploration and intuition. I love to start with an idea and just let the paint flow to wherever my heart and soul take it."

Paulette West

Paulette, who has explored painting and collage, has in the last four years focused her energy on sculpture.   Influenced by the work of British sculptor, Henry Moore, her figurative plaster sculptures are built on a wire and cloth armature, using the additive or molding process.  Once a sculpture has reached the desired overall size, the plaster medium can then be finished with a hint of colour in a patina that is her own.
